PURPOSE
       The aim of this symposium is to bring together the international scientists studying on karst. Karst is a rapidly changing research and application field due to both the improvements in instrumental technology and the increased number of institutions that are engaged in methodological development and application. Thus, there are frequent improvements in the reliability and applicability of existing techniques and novel methods continue to be introduced.
       The symposium intends to digest the historical development and encapsulate the current state-of-art and the new trends of karst studies. The outcome of the symposium will be a basis for the studies of coming century in all aspects of karst.

DATE AND PLACE
       The Symposium and Field Seminar will be held on September 17–26, 2000 Marmaris – Türkiye.
       The Symposium will consist of three days of lectures, informal discussions, oral and poster presentations, and one or two days of field excursions in the vicinity of Marmaris.
       The tentative plans are to have a reception, registration and an opening lecture, oral and poster presentations, Karst Commission Meeting, Res Man Med European Community Project Meeting, and local field excursions.
The Field Seminar will consist of five days of discussion and observations at carefully selected sites in the karst.

  • FIELD SEMINAR
           The Field Seminar will include observations and discussions of the spectacular karst features and their controls on the regional hydrogeology of the Central Taurus Mountain Range of Southern Türkiye.

    POSTER PRESENTATION
           Poster sessions are an important part of the Symposium program. By means of illustrations and brief texts, authors will have the opportunity to communicate on a one-to-one basis with other participants.

    ABSTRACTS
           Those wishing to offer an original presentation should submit two typed copies of an abstract in English (maximum 250 words).
           Abstracts will be reviewed by the Symposium Technical Program Committee and selection of the final program will be made by May 1, 2000. Abstracts should be informative and contain the author’s important conclusions. Metric units will be required.
           Please submit your abstract as soon as possible, but not later than March 1, 2000, and address your correspondence to:

           Completed papers are to be submitted not later than September 1, 2000.
           In order to publish the proceeding book as quickly as possible after reviewing, authors are encouraged to submit the final text on 3.5” diskette. Main text, list of references, tables and figures legends should be stored in separate text files with clearly identifiable file names. The format of these files should be preferably MS WORD text or ASCII. Authors are encouraged to ensure that the disk version and the hardcopy must be identical.
           Furthermore, the detailed UNESCO format instructions for preparing the manuscripts will be notified as the instructions are obtained and will also be available in our web site, soon.
